Reflection

These sculptures visually communicate energy and movement with a childlike feel.  While experimenting with the materials to build the sculptures, I wanted to focus on the process. Subconsciously by pieces are more "animated" and have a lot for the eye to follow. For each of my pieces I did not go in with a plan, I took different materials and worked on different ways I could stick them together and overlap them. I decided to include wood in all of my pieces as a cohesive element that brought the collection together but I also found it to be a sturdy base for exploring materials. I felt the work was lacking in color so I went back and used ink in them. The ink made the pieces more put together, even though not all of the colors were vibrant.
I want to keep exploring with ink in gel like mediums and how they move around and what they look like after they dry. I also want to learn more about different ways to cut wood and layer it. In my sculptures I used glue, so I would like to look into other materials. This piece allowed me to explore my own aesthetics. As I added pieces to my sculpture one at a time, I got to explore what I felt "looked good" or not, because there was no right or wrong restrictions, with regards, to assignment guidelines. The making of this work exposed new ideas such as what can I do with glue. I used Mod Podge and hot glue in many different ways and with different materials so it was cool to see how different things reacted with each other.
